Yellow flowers~cosmos~Sunday Stills Challenge~070713

These cosmos are all in my garden, in the front yard.  I bought a wildflower mixture from American Meadows and sowed the seeds last Spring.  I now have cosmos, zinnias, a little sunflower, and some four-o'clocks.  I'm very happy with this first garden out front and I enjoy watching the birds come to the flowers, especially the hummingbirds.  I'm already planning my fall garden and I will plant new seeds in August.  This is for the Sunday Stills Challenge, "yellow flowers" for July 7, 2013.  To visit Sunday Stills, please go to:  http://sundaystills.wordpress.com/

Not my flowers (I wish...)

No, these aren't in my garden.  Rather, they are in a garden up near Garner Valley, at about 5,000 feet elevation.  Mine get partial shade, and I may have to trim back my mesquite tree to allow them to get more sun.  Aren't they gorgeous?

More garden photos

Just some random shots of my garden as of June 9, 2013.  I love watching all the birds and butterflies that come to visit it! This is in Palm Desert, CA.

Little sunflowers~Today's Flowers~062813

My seeds are coming up now in my wildflower garden and among them are what I call "wild sunflowers".  I don't really know the name of these.  I see them alongside roads in the eastern Sierra Nevada, as well as down here in the desert near Palm Springs, CA.  I've tried to grow them for years, but I finally bought a wildflower mixture and they were in the mix.  I do believe they need full sun (these get afternoon shade).  But, I'm enjoying these, along with the zinnias, cosmos, and other plants that have sprouted.  I'll post more photos of my garden after this one, so if you wish to see it, please look for the other posts!  Today's Flowers for June 28, 2013.  To visit TF, please go to:  http://flowersfromtoday.blogspot.com/

Gecko

We've had families of geckos in our yards, both front and back, for several years now.  I've seen large ones and tiny ones.  Out back, they are usually by the water faucet.  This guy was out front, near the defunct bird fountain, which hasn't had water in or near it for YEARS.  I was out there yesterday cleaning up all the debris and old leaves when I saw him scamper by!  He went up the side of the garage and stayed there long enough for me to take these photos, then off he went!

Garden update #2 week of June 11, 2013

I took these photos the week of June 11, 2013.  Just documenting in case my neighbors decide to DESTROY my garden, which is behind a 6 foot fence on OUR PROPERTY.

Garden update #1

I took these photos the week of June 3rd (last week).  With the hot weather and with LOTS of water, the wildflowers are starting to open and bloom.  FINALLY!  Now, if my neighbors will just leave them alone.  We have a 6 foot fence, but that may not prevent them from ordering their gardener to spray ROUNDUP on OUR GARDEN!~ (Yes, they've done that before!!!)  I notice that sparrows, finches, and even hummingbirds now visit the garden on a daily basis.

I'm so excited to have a garden this spring and summer!  I ordered seeds from American Meadows and I now have zinnas, cosmos, and some wildflowers that I can't identify.  I'll be posting more photos this week as they are ALL starting to bloom.  I took this picture yesterday afternoon.  Shadow Shot Sunday for June 2, 2013.  To visit Shadow Shot Sunday2, please go to:   http://shadowshotsunday2.blogspot.com/

What's blooming in the desert? February 2013

I have no garden yet this year, so I have decided to post photos of what's blooming around the desert.  Right now, these are blooming in February.  I DID order a desert wildflower seed mixture and a dry climate mixture of 1/4 pounds each from American Meadows, but I just threw out the seeds and nothing has sprouted yet.  I don't have my sunflowers this year because the city officials were such @##HOLES that I just didn't wish to deal with them...sigh...oh, well.
