Garden, February 2014

Gosh, has it really been last July since I last posted?  Yup...it has!  Six months have come and gone.  I'm feeling much better this year.  At least I don't have the chronic bronchitis I had ALL last year, from Labor Day through Memorial Day.  I couldn't do my morning walks.  I just didn't have the energy.  I've been free of my bronchitis now since mid-May last year.  I never got it over the summer.  What I DID change was my eating habits.  I cut way back on carbs (I hardly eat bread any more), bought a VITAMIX blender, and started making healthy green smoothies!  I DID get a concussion while at school (my boys were playing soccer and I somehow ended up in the middle of it, staring up at the sky!) and I was off for 10 days with a moderate concussion, but otherwise, except for a couple days of the flu and some "mental health" days, I've been relatively healthy this year.

As such, I went out this morning and planted a DESERT ZONE DRY wildflower mixture...very drought tolerant.  Good thing, because our drought here in California is very bad.  I figured since everything else was blooming, I should get started on a small wildflower garden.  I found a mixture at Home Depot which contained California poppies, African daisies, zinnias, and I'm not sure what else.  I found some half price Burpee seed packets up at our local hardware store (left over from last year) and I planted them, too.

So, the wildflower garden is DONE and now I just have to wait and see what grows.

In the meantime, I took a walk out in our local city-owned golf course and spotted these brittle brush flowers!  :-)  Not from my garden, but they sure are pretty!
